Skymatic, a startup from Bonn, is engaged with the topic “digital self-defense for everyone”. It has developed Cryptomator, a software that empowers users to protect their files in any cloud storage.
Skymatic is signatory of the Charta zur Stärkung der vertrauenswürdigen Kommunikation (Charter for Fostering Trustworthy Communication) and member of the Allianz für Cyber-Sicherheit (Alliance for Cyber Security) by Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik (Federal Office for Information Security).
We are four privacy-passionate enthusiasts from Bonn and Stuttgart in Germany. Our expertise lies in the fields of software development – particularly cryptography and usability –, business, and psychology.
Tobias Hagemann is our expert for design and iOS app development. He holds a bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) in computer science with focus on visual computing and has two years of professional experience at Accenture.
Markus Kreusch is a certified software-architect (iSAQB), expert for software quality and responsible for the development of the desktop clients as well as the Android app. Previously, he worked as a senior IT consultant at CGI and has eight years of professional experience. He holds a bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) in business informatics.
Christian Schmickler is responsible for marketing, sales, and finance. He holds a master’s degree (M.Sc.) in international business and bachelor’s degrees (B.Sc.) in business economics and in psychology. Previously, he worked as a systemic consultant at cidpartners for two years.
Sebastian Stenzel has extensive expertise in the field of cryptography and is responsible for the overall architecture of Cryptomator as well as for the development of the desktop client. Formerly, he worked as an IT consultant at CGI and as a software engineer at adesso. He has eight years of professional experience, is a certified software-architect (iSAQB) and holds a bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) in business informatics.

Photos, company secrets, or the latest bank statement: The easy-to-use encryption allows users to securely store even sensitive data in any cloud. With the new Android app (also available for Windows, Mac, Linux, and iOS), users can encrypt cloud data and access encrypted cloud data on the go.
For its user-friendliness, Cryptomator received the CeBIT Innovation Award 2016 for Usable Security and Privacy.
